Hi Guys,

I have received few emails from people that are asking to remove the Ads toolbar in CM. The thing is these ads are the only source of revenue for the project. There are some costs to maintain the site, but the main reason I have added this is to justify to my family the long hours I am spending maintaining and improving the project. In average I spend 20-30 hours weekly, and the donations are coming in are in the order or $50-$60 monthly. The ads from direct advertisers are small as well, only HARMONY FTA is subsidizing the project monthly so far.
So here is the question: do you mind having these adds in CM as support to this project, or would you better donate a small amount monthly for having them removed?

Thank you for your honest answers!
SharpC.

Howdy!

I really don't mind the ads, but the constant "CLICK" as they change is SO annoying. Sure I can turn the speakers off, but then I miss my Email notifications.

I am pleased to say that I HAVE donated twice to your outstanding work and I highly recommend that others do too!

Each time a question is posted on other Sites I belong to and I KNOW Channel Master is the answer, I promote Channel Master in my reply.

I understand about the ads, but please ~ spare us the "CLICKS"?

Thank you!

A small donation...yes. A monthly fee...no. A monthly fee seems a bit too much. Perhaps a one time license fee would be more appropriate.

You are right, a one time liccense fee would work too, I just thought that it would be cheaper for users to pay only for a small period of time. I will add this option too.

Cheers,

Hi Pirate,

I will look into why these CLICKS are happening. I guess is from IE control, but I will try to disable them.

Thanks!

Pirate,

You can turn the Ads bar off for the current session from the Menu: View->Status Bar. Just let me know if you still get the anoying clicks.

Cheers,

Actually the clicks will not end, but I will fix this in the next version.
If you need to end the clicks NOW, then go to Control Panel -> Sounds and Multimedia and remove the sound for Windows Explorer -> Start Navigation.

Cheers,
SharpC.

Ads are a necessary part of "free" tv. I have no problem with them and I would not have any problem with a license fee to use CM. Your work is outstanding and appreciated and you should be rewarded for it.

Yup - that part is VERY annoying.
Ads are ok, but ditch the (CLICK)(CLICK)(CLICK)(CLICK)(CLICK)(CLICK)(CLICK)

#C - How about just adding some sort of avatar to the members who have donated and perhaps a "Thanks to supporters" forum would be cool as well. I dont like the idea of a monthly, but when the budget permits I'll send more. Hopefully those that use CM on a regular basis and when they can afford it would at least try to make a one time donation. Just my 2cents. fuz

Bear with me a second... Is there a way to move/downsize the ads... in regards to...

A person (whom regularly visits) comes to the site to find some information, the first thing they have to do is scroll past all the advertising before they ever see the beginning of the threads... it's no biggie... but is it not possible to make the ads smaller for those of us whom pay attention to the ads and visited them? Using the cookies or something... is it possible to personalize the home page in regards to previous visits and advertising? I think it would be more convienient to the regular visitor, and still advantagous to the newbie visiting the site and advertising... with no loss to the advertisers themselves?

I would like to add my two cents the question opposed.
Now I haven't read all the post and if this was already presented, please excuse me for repeating it

SharpC made a great program for all to enjoy and make channel list alot easier to list our channels the way we want and for me to say that your ads are somewhat annoying, would be selfish on my part. Sometimes it will bother me BUT I deal with it because it's not my work and it's free. Those of you that have a big problem it with should pay to have it removed, in that way Sharpc has the money to keep up the fine work and you get rid of your annoying ad problem. It's a win-win for everyone. And those that do no have a problem with ads should continue to enjoy the program as is, in that way SharpC has money coming from the advertiser still and cover some of the cost for the people that don't have a problem with that ads being there.

ALSO it alway nice to give alittle something just for the effort he puts forth to keep a geat program like this great.

Good post scoopdee. There is no other program around, that I know of, that will do what CM can do. #C deserves not only a "cheers", a few $'s to help him out. Most of the forums I visit frequently make reference to CM, if all those references added up to some $'s for CM it would certainly be his just reward. If you cant donate then how about clicking the heck out of his sponsors links everytime you use the program or visit this site? That might buy him some coffee to keep him working on CM that gets better over time and might get his family off his back about how much time he spends on it. Smile . So "CHEERS" to #C, many thanx and have a great thanksgiving with your family. I for one will donate again when i have the funds. Beta fuz

I know SharpC isn't going to like this reply but the simple way to stop the ads and accompanying clicking is to access Drive (C) > Program Files > SharpC > Channel Master > Sponsors and simply delete all the advertiser file folders above the SharpC file folder and nothing else. That causes no operational problems with Channel Master and solves the problem. That's what I did.
